Apple-honey Dutch baby

Makes: 4 servings
Active Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 3 large eggs (at room temperature)
  • 3/4 cup 2% milk
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter

For the Topping:

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 large Golden Delicious apples (thinly sliced)
  • 1/2 cup Blossom Bees' Spring Wildflower or Autumn Wildflower honey
  • 2 to 3 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons cold water

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Batter:
    • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • Whisk together the eggs, milk, flour, and sugar in a large bowl until smooth.
  2. Prepare the Skillet:
    • Melt butter in a 10-inch ovenproof skillet in the preheated oven for 2-3 minutes. Coat the skillet with melted butter evenly.
    • Pour the batter into the hot skillet and bake for 16-20 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
  3. Make the Topping:
    • While baking, melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a pan over medium heat.
    • Add apple slices and cook until soft, about 5 minutes.
    • Mix cornstarch and water, then add to the apples. Stir until thickened.
    • Add honey, lemon juice, and cardamom. Cook for another 2 minutes.
  4. Serve:
    • Once baked, generously spoon the prepared apple-honey mixture over the Dutch Baby, allowing the flavors to meld.

Cook's Note:

  • To achieve the best texture, make sure your eggs and milk are at room temperature before mixing the batter. This will help the Dutch Baby puff up nicely in the oven.
